On this week's podcast we learn about food deserts from Andrian Lee of Abe's Kitchen. Abe's Kitchen seeks to alleviate food insecurity through the use of a food truck serving a Healthy, Economical, Accessible, and Tasty (H.E.A.T.) menu in Food Deserts in Columbus. Burke and I first learned about Abe's Kitchen at Columbus SOUP, and are very excited for you to learn about their efforts to serve hot, tasty and affordable meals in neighborhoods affected by food insecurity. Many opportunities are provided for volunteer work, and there are options for other food trucks to join in Abe's Kitchen's efforts!

The weekend was busy for all of us! Our experiences took us to Powell, Franklinton, and a variety of stops downtown! Check out the photos for images of Santa Cruz Candy& Crafts Community in Powell, the Flag Memorial at the Ohio Statehouse to remember 9/11, people enjoying 4th St during Open Streets 614, and the sweet cookies Jessica got Jason for his birthday from Plentyocookies!

Two years ago Burke and I had an idea to produce a podcast. The creative process was pretty intense, but we quickly realized our mission and the Why behind it. We had recently went to Independents' Day festival and it felt like where we were supposed to be, it made sense to us fundamentally. I cannot describe the festival any better than they describe themselves: A 2-day festival located in the heart of Columbus’ vibrant East Franklinton neighborhood, Independents’ Day 2016 will host live music on multiple stages, an array of local arts showcases, marketplaces featuring some of Ohio’s most celebrated vendors, amazing food and drink, live interactive features… and so much more. Now two years later, Columbus! Something New will be a small part of this festival that influenced us to be us. We would love for you to stop by and see us at the Podcast Tent located in the Strongwater lot on Saturday, September 17 from noon-1:30!
